Being open and transparent
At Central and West Warrington Primary Care Network (PCN), we are committed to being open and transparent about any interests that could potentially influence decision-making.
A Declaration of Interest is a way of recording situations where an individual may have a financial, professional or personal interest that could be perceived as influencing their work.
Most interests are entirely appropriate and do not prevent someone from carrying out their role. Recording them helps ensure that decisions are made fairly and openly.
The NHS requires organisations to maintain and publish registers of interests to:
- Promote openness and transparency
- Maintain public trust and confidence
- Help identify and manage potential conflicts of interest
- Support fair and accountable decision-making
Examples may include:
- Employment outside the NHS
- Directorships or ownership of companies
- Shareholdings in healthcare-related organisations
- Consultancy work
- Membership of professional bodies
- Roles held within voluntary or charitable organisations
- Sponsorship, gifts or hospitality received in connection with NHS work
Having a declared interest does not necessarily mean there is a conflict. It simply means the interest has been recorded openly.
Central and West Warrington PCN maintains a Register of Interests which is reviewed and updated regularly.
The register includes declarations made by relevant staff and members involved in the governance and management of the Primary Care Network.
